Recognising Burnout: Early Signs Worth Taking Seriously

Sep 8
1 min read

Burnout rarely arrives all at once. It builds quietly, and the people living through it are often the last to name it.

What burnout tends to look like

  • Exhaustion that rest does not seem to fix

  • Growing detachment from work you once cared about

  • A sense that your effort no longer makes any difference

  • Irritability, broken sleep, or physical tension that has come to feel normal

Why it gets missed

Burnout is easy to explain away. A hard quarter. A difficult season. A stretch that will pass. When the stretch that will pass has lasted a year, it is worth pausing to look at it properly.

What tends to help

Rest matters, but rest on its own rarely resolves burnout, because the conditions that produced it are usually still in place when you return. Changes to workload, boundaries and support generally do more than a holiday can.

Taking stock

If you recognise yourself here, our Burnout Assessment Kit offers a structured way to look at where your energy is going. It is a self-reflection tool rather than a diagnosis. If what you find concerns you, book a consultation and we will talk it through with you.
